Procedure
Complete one of the following procedures depending on the version of BlackBerry® Desktop Manager you are running.
* BlackBerry Desktop Software 4.1.1 and later
* BlackBerry Desktop Software 4.0 and earlier
BlackBerry Desktop Software 4.1.1 and later
With BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.1.1 and later, you do not need to remove registry keys or system folders.
To remove the BlackBerry Desktop Software, complete the following steps:
1. Close BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
2. Open the Control Panel and double-click Add/Remove Programs.
3. Select BlackBerry Desktop Software and click Change/Remove.
4. On the InstallShield® Wizard window, click the Remove option, followed by Next.
5. On the Uninstall Options window, select the check box labeled Remove all user settings for BlackBerry Desktop Software.
6. On the Confirm Uninstall window, click OK.
7. On the InstallShield Wizard window, click Finish.
To remove BlackBerry Desktop Software in Microsoft® Windows Vista™, complete the following steps:
1. Close BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
2. Open the Control Panel.
3. Select Uninstall a program.
4. Select BlackBerry Desktop Software.
5. Select Change/Remove.
6. On the InstallShield Wizard window, select the Remove option, followed by Next.
7. On the Uninstall Options window, select the check box labeled Remove all user settings for BlackBerry Desktop Software.
8. On the Confirm Uninstall window, click OK.
9. On the InstallShield Wizard window, click Finish.
BlackBerry Desktop Software 4.1 and earlier
Task 1 - Uninstall BlackBerry Desktop Software
Note: Be sure to remove existing versions of BlackBerry Desktop Manager before installing another version.
To remove BlackBerry Desktop Software, complete the following steps:
1. Close BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
2. Open the Control Panel and double-click Add/Remove Programs.
3. Select BlackBerry Desktop Software and click Change/Remove.
4. On the InstallShield Wizard window, select the Remove option, followed by Next.
5. On the Confirm Uninstall window, click OK.
6. On the InstallShield Wizard window, click Finish.
Task 2 - Delete the Research In Motion keys from the registry
Warning: The following procedure involves modifying the computer registry. This can cause substantial damage to the Microsoft® Windows® operating system. Document and back up the registry entries prior to implementing any changes.
Note: This task removes registry entries for any Research In Motion® software on the computer including BlackBerry Manager for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
To delete the Research In Motion keys, complete the following steps:
1. Click Start > Run.
2. Type Regedit, and then click OK.
3. In the Registry Editor, delete the Research In Motion key located in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\
4. Delete the Research In Motion key located in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\
Note: This registry key is not present in BlackBerry Desktop Software 4.0.
5. Remove the BlackBerry Desktop Software key under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
Note: Two keys exist at this location, for example they appear as the following:
* {<number>}
* BlackBerry {<number>}
To determine what key to remove, click on each one until the display name on the right of the screen displays BlackBerry Desktop Software. Removing these keys removes the BlackBerry Desktop Software from the Add/Remove Programs list in Microsoft Windows. Leave the Registry Editor open to complete the next task.
Task 3 - Delete the Pumatech or Pumatech Technology key from the registry (if present)
Pumatech shared keys only exist in the registry for BlackBerry Desktop Software 4.0.1 and earlier.
To delete the Pumatech and or Puma Technology keys, complete the following steps:
1. In the Registry Editor, delete the Puma Technology key located in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\
2. Delete the Pumatech key located in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\
3. Close the Registry Editor.
Task 4 - Delete the Research In Motion folders from your hard drive
To delete the Research In Motion folder, complete the procedure that is appropriate for the Microsoft Windows operating system you have installed on your computer.
For Windows 2000 or XP
1. Open Microsoft Windows Explorer.
2. Delete the Research In Motion folder in C:\Program Files\.
Note: This folder may not be present if you are removing BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.0.
3. Delete the Research In Motion folder in C:\Program Files\Common Files (if present).
4. Delete the Research In Motion folder in C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\
Note: If you are unable to see the Application Data folder, it may be a hidden system folder. See the Additional Information section of this article for instructions on how to display hidden files and folders.
5. If you are running BlackBerry Desktop Software 4.0.1, delete the BlackBerry Desktop folder in C:\Documents and Settings\<user names>\Application Data\
For Microsoft Windows 98 or ME
1. Open Microsoft Windows Explorer.
2. Delete the Research In Motion folder in C:\Program Files\
3. Delete the Research In Motion folder in C:\Windows\Application Data\
Task 5 - Delete the Pumatech folder from your hard drive (if present)
To delete the Pumatech folder, complete the procedure that is appropriate for the BlackBerry Desktop Software version you have installed on your computer.
* If you are running BlackBerry Desktop Software 4.0.1 or later, delete the Pumatech Desktop Setup folder located in C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\
* If you are running BlackBerry Desktop Software 4.0.0 or earlier, delete the Pumatech Shared folder located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\
Note: If you are unable to delete the Pumatech folder, rename it (e.g., Pumatech Shared_old).
If the Pumatech software is being used by synchronization software for other personal digital assistants (PDAs), re-install the synchronization software.
Task 6 - Restart the computer
The BlackBerry Desktop Software should now be fully uninstalled. Restart the computer to make sure that all background processes are cleared from system memory.

Before you re-install the BlackBerry Desktop Software, register the atl.dll file. For instructions, see KB04840.
To display hidden files and folders, complete the following steps:
1. Open the Control Panel and double-click Folder Options.
2. Select the View tab.
3. Select the Show hidden files and folders option and then click OK.
